The Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB) in Leipzig is one of the oldest state art colleges in Germany in 1764. Ca. 600 students are currently studying in the four study programs Painting / Graphics, Book Art / Graphic Design, Photography and Media Art. In addition, a master's program in Cultures of the Curator was founded in 2009. This continuing education program is unique in this form in Germany and combines application-oriented research practice with scientific reflection. In 2014, it celebrated its 250th anniversary together with the simultaneously founded Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden. The gallery of the university acts as a central exhibition venue.
